Odd viscosity in chiral passive suspensions

Prior studies have revealed that nonzero odd viscosity is an essential property for chiral active fluids. Here we report such also exists in suspensions of non-active or non-externally-driven but chirally-shaped particles. Computational simulations are carried out monolayers dense ratchets simple shear and planar extensional flows. The contact between two can be either frictionless infinitely-frictional, depending on their teeth sliding directions at the point. Our results show ratchet suspension has intermediate shear/extensional as compared with smooth gear-like Meanwhile, even components first normal stress coefficient regarding flow rate, which indicates mixed feature conventional complex fluids viscous

Viscosity of Suspensions: A Theoretical Study

In this work, Einstein’s formula for the viscosity of suspensions is revised to include effect of particle interactions. The revision is based on assumption of linear behavior of particle interactions with distance between particles. The resulting formula is tested over a range of particle size and concentrations.
